I’ve always known that birth photography was for me. Always.
The process of birth has been one of my favorite subjects for years. From studying pregnancy and preparing for my own births, to watching my friends prepare for theirs, it’s a heart warming yet equally terrifying subject. There’s literally nothing in the world like it. There is nothing like the anticipation of that 40th week.
I could sit with others for hours rehashing their birth stories. Hearing moms and dads describe the moments prior to becoming a parent. The excitement. The fear. The joy. So imagine my excitement when birth photography started trending as a subject and becoming a “thing”.
I first met Shai and Zac via a slightly panicked phone conversation. Shai had gone into labor two weeks early, and her original birth photographer was out of town. Luckily her photographer had a backup plan in cases like this, and had asked me if I could fill in. Shai was already 5cm when I got the call, so I grabbed my bags(no makeup today!) and headed out to IU Arnett in Lafayette Indiana.
A little side note: Shai attributes her early labor to her friends surprise “pop party” that was thrown for her just hours prior to the onset of labor. So if you’re hoping to go into labor sooner rather than later, celebrate with a pop party!
See their beautiful birth story below, as they welcome sweet Emryn.
***this is a BIRTH story. Images of birth are present in this blog post. If birth photography isn’t for you, it’s best to skip this one 😉 ***
