Michelle & Chad — Kokomo Indiana Maternity Photographer

kokomo maternity photographer

Michelle & Chad came alllllll the way from Indianapolis, to visit me in Kokomo on a cloudy cloudy day. We actually had to cancel our first session due to the rain and I was SO relieved when the weather held out for us that day.

Cloudy days are typically well loved by natural light photographers because they create the most dreamy images. The sky creates a gorgeous airy light, flattering shadows, and endless possibilities. So next time you’re having your photos taken and you see an overcast sky, don’t fret the gloomy appearance. Just smile. Because pretty pretty photos are in your future 😀

At any rate, we had a lot of fun along the Wild Cat Creek and I was finally able to break out the beautiful lace parasol that was gifted back in October by a dear bride. And we ended the session with a bouquet of dandelions as the rain headed our way.

See some of my favorites from their session below. Thank you M & C for coming all the way out, and congratulations!!!

Elim’s Fresh 48 Session ~ Kokomo, Indiana Photographer

kokomo indiana photographer

Fresh 48 sessions are still relatively new for me, but they have quickly reached the top of my list for photography favorites. A “Fresh 48” session is a photography session that takes place in the hospital, when baby is less than 48 hours old. It encompasses all of those hazy, airy memories in the first few hours of welcoming a new little one in to the world.

A couple weeks ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to shoot my first ever Fresh 48 session. I knew that this was a style of session that I would love and would want to offer to clients, so I ran a model call in search of a family expecting a little one in April. And I was so excited to meet to Schroeter family.

They met all the qualifications for the model call, they provided all of the information that I had asked for, and they were kind and sweet, and were lovingly waiting for their little Elim to arrive. And arrive he did. Check out some his sweet little session below. Congratulations Schroeter family!!!

Drew & Danielle — Kokomo Municipal Stadium Engagement Session

kokomo engagement photographer

When going over ideas for engagement sessions, I love to encourage couples to consider their mutual interests together. These interests often have potential for being used in engagement photos, because it makes the session that much more unique, just like their relationship.

Where did you meet? Do you have any favorite past times together? Is there a particular place that holds special memories for you? I LOVE it when I get the opportunity to incorporate personal styles and interests in to any session, but especially engagement sessions.

Drew & Danielle are both huge baseball fans and frequent games together. They immediately knew that they wanted to incorporate baseball in to their engagement photos, and of course they thought of Kokomo’s brand new(and absolutely amazing) municipal stadium. I was so happy to talk with the staff of the Kokomo Jackrabbits, and to learn that the stadium was available for our use on the day of their engagement session!

We spent some time in some wooded areas by Kokomo’s own Wild Cat Creek Reservoir, and ended the day with a sunset session at the Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Honestly, the day could not have been more perfect. See some of their sweet sessions favorites below. Thank you for hanging out with me Drew & Danielle!(and for putting up with my newby baseball questions)

Andrea & Denver. Kokomo Engagement Photographer

Another trip out to this gorgeous Mississinewa Reservoir  in Peru, Indiana. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite spots, even though it’s so rare that I get to make it out there.

Denver & Andrea loved the idea of the reservoir, and it was the most perfect weather for such a space(despite tornados sweeping the area, just 3 days prior), so we took the excuse and made the drive. And it definitely didn’t disappoint. Here’s a handful of my many many favorites. I can’t wait to be there for their big day in July!

Jude ~ Kokomo Indiana Newborn Photographer

Lifestyle photography is probably my all time favorite genre of photography. It encompasses beautifully natural lit photographs, taken in the comfort of your home, while engaging in your every day surroundings and activities.

As my husband likes to call it, it’s the Creative Mundane. The beautiful memories of every day life, that we don’t think much off in the moment, but often miss so very much once we’ve aged or when our little ones are grown.

It is such an honor to step in to someone’s personal space. To spend time with others as they learn and play together, and to preserve the memories that they are making. To creative physical, printed memories that others will be able to look back on for years to come.

To the “L” family. Thanks for inviting me in to your little slice of heaven and for allowing me to witness your family’s transition with a new little one. Here’s a small bit of family moments from their lifestyle/newborn session.

Boston ~ Kokomo Indiana Newborn Photographer

2016 is the first year that I’ve ever offered newborn photography. For the last five years I’ve primarily photographed weddings as well as families. And last year I had the honor of photographing many weddings, one of which was a gorgeous wedding for Renee & Blaine, which you might remember me blogging about here.

I was so thrilled to see their names again in my inbox, and even more thrilled to learn that they were expecting their first little one. My heart is so full to have been a part of not just one of their life events, but now two.

Thank you for sharing these precious moments with me Blaine & Renee. I know they’ll last a lifetime. Congratulations!

Leah & Drew Engagement Session ~ Peru, Indiana

kokomo engagement photographer

Even though I’m based in Kokomo, I like to venture out to other areas often. Especially for photography purposes because shooting in new areas often provides a different kind of scenery that are other wise hard to gather if you visit the same park or street for every session.

So we did just that 🙂 Leah & Drew attended high school together and saw each other in passing, but it wasn’t until after high school that their paths crossed. Literally. They were both out on a hiking trail at the same time and happened to walk by one another. Both immediately noticed the other, but tried to play it cool. After a few minutes they each decided to double back, just to see if the other was still around. Which is when they ended up crossing paths again. And the rest is history.

They like to go camping together with each other and their families, so they felt it fitting that we venture out to the Mississinewa Reservoir. We took some beautiful backlit photos on “their trail” and then we headed across the reservoir dam for some colorful photos on the rocky bank. Leah and Drew, thanks for choosing me as your photographer. Each and every session is special and I’m so thankful that you guys trusted me with your engagement photos. I can’t wait for your wedding day!

New Life

photo-1

I’ve had a green thumb, for about as long as I can remember. I grew up on a little flower farm, surrounded by hundreds of gorgeous blossoms each year. As kid’s we were often asked to help out with the weeds, to help separate the flowers, to plant new ones in pots, etc. It wasn’t much fun as a child but I’ve grown to appreciate the knowledge that those chores gave me(I never thought I’d say it, but thanks Mom and Dad).

This year that knowledge has a lot of significance since we’ve purchased our own home. In years past we have had different yard and gardening spaces. We had a little apartment porch garden, later we moved and had a borrowed garden space, and now we have our own little piece of the world to creative new life on.

I started our seedlings a couple weeks ago, and this week they have finally emerged. Their tiny delicate leaves poking through the damp earth and saying “Spring! It’s here!” What started as tiny seeds and common dirt, transformed into living things. And soon our kitchen will be bursting with fresh produce and herbs because of those tiny seeds.

kokomo family photographer

These little seedlings are scattered throughout our home in various windows so I see them often. They are in our bedroom window, on our stair well, in the sun room, the kitchen window, basically everywhere(sorry for the mess honey). And when I see them, I can’t help but think of the personal bit of “new life” that I’ve decided to plant this year.

I’ve stated in a previous post about the changes my little business is making this year, and each time I see those little plants, I’m happily reminded of them. Happily reminded of the little thoughts that just used to be seeds. Those thoughts are now seedlings of progress, and are soon to be fully grown and mature ideas. So many ideas. And I can’t wait to share them with you.

Aya & Derek ~ Kokomo Engagement Photographer

What does an adorable 100 year old plantation home, 3 happy fur babies, and a bright blue mill timbered barn all have in common? Lots and lots and lots of love.

This winter I spent some quality time in Muncie, Indiana with Aya and Derek. They’ll be tying the knot this Spring at Derek’s parent’s farm and they decided to have their engagement pictures taken at their home. They’ve been working hard, refurbishing their plantation house, all the while planning a wedding together.

I loved spending the afternoon with them and we couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous day!

Thank you Aya & Derek for sharing your little piece of heaven with me 🙂

Samuel’s Newborn Session ~ Kokomo Indiana Newborn Photographer

kokomo indiana newborn photographer

Little Samuel at 16 day new was an absolute peach. Most babies are fuzzy little peaches of course, but this little guy’s temperament during his session was so incredibly sweet and relaxed. We were able to accomplish so many poses and I’m so very happy that he was happy! Check out his lovely little session below.
