Braxton is ONE! ~ Kokomo Indiana Cake Smash Photographer

kokomo indiana cake smash photographer

Ooooooo myyyyyyy gooooosh can I tell you how full my heart is? Since building the Kokomo Indiana newborn photography studio 1 short year ago and then *quickly* outgrowing the space at a record speed, this past year has been a whirlwind. I can’t tell you how sweet it is to see my newborns from our itty bitty space, that now come to the “big” space in Downtown for their “big” kid portrait updates.

Braxton just turned one and he is the same little meaty muffin baby that he was a year ago. And he is SO sweet! He happily sat, ate(ahem destroyed) his cake, and played with the Wild One birthday theme setup that we came up with.

All in all, the session turned out just as I had hoped and we loved every minute of it. Want to book a custom themed cake smash for your little one? Talk to us! Each theme is different depending on your style with a custom outfit and smash cake included.

See my favorites from Braxton’s sesh below. Happy birthday Braxton!

How to Prepare for Your Fresh 48 Session ~ Kokomo Indiana Photographer

kokomo fresh 48 session

There’s nothing like a fresh baby.

Most parents will agree that those newborn-y feature change daily! From birth to even 24 hours old, babies look totally different. That’s one of the reasons I love Fresh 48 photography sessions so much! It brings back all those fuzzy newborn memories from the very beginning and preserves every bit of those fleeting first 2 days.

Fresh 48/Newborn. What’s the difference?

Fresh 48 sessions take place within 48 hours of Baby’s birth. Typically taking place in the environment where birth occurred, whether this is at the hospital, birthing center, or home. We focus on little details, like hospital wristbands, womb wrinkled toes, and curled fingers. These sessions are unposed and we let baby do their thing.

Newborn sessions typically take place when baby is between 4-14 days of age(sometimes later if Baby arrived early) and these are much more “posed”. We cuddle baby up into a variety of outfits and wraps, and style sessions according to Mom/Dad’s coloring preferences. They are completely different. It’s fun to have our Fresh 48 sessions visit us at the Kokomo photography studio 1-2 weeks after their first session, because they change so very much!

So what can you expect for a Fresh 48 session? Is there anything you need to do?

1) Expect the session to be short and sweet. After all, you just had a baby! We want to leave as quickly as we arrived, so that you and baby can continue with your normal routine. Mini Fresh 48 sessions are around 10 minutes in length and Full Fresh 48s are around 30 minutes. We will be in and out before you know it.

2) Feed baby prior to your session. Even if Baby has just eaten, offer them some more. We want to make sure all of Baby’s needs have been met, so that they are happy and relaxed, ready for their big debut.

3) Got an avid nurser? Know that you can ask us to wait. If your little one is still actively eating or feels unsettled when we arrive, we are happy to give Baby more time so that their needs are met first.

4) Pack your favorite muslin wrap in your hospital bag. We looooove Aden + Anais wraps if you are looking for suggestions. Not a fan of muslin? Bring your favorite swaddle that has no velcro straps or ties. We are also happy to use the traditional cloth swaddles provided by hospitals and birthing centers.

5) Does baby need a bath prior to the session? Nope! Not unless you feel the need. Most little ones are rose-y as can be thanks to that amazing vernix and gut flora that accumulated in the womb. I’ve yet to meet a stinky newborn 😉 If you DO feel the need for a bath, don’t forget to pack that baby wash! This is our favorite free and clear plant based baby shampoo.

Baby Quincy ~ Fishers Indiana Newborn Photographer

How cute is that name? Quincy. Quincy quincy quincy.

And how cute is her nursery?! Her mama did such a good job. Inspired by greenery and neutrals, this airy nursery is a space where those hazy newborn dreams became a reality.

Quincy and her parents had us come over to Fishers Indiana for an in-home newborn session at their lovely little house.

In-home sessions not only include the styled newborn portraits that we are known for, but also a lifestyle portrait session in Baby’s nursery. This allows us to preserve memories of not just mom, dad, and baby, but also their home and all of those fuzzy “real” newborn memories that fade oh so fast.

Here are some of our favorites from Quincy’s nursery as well as some of her styled portraits(that took place right in their living room).

Kokomo Indiana Family Photography ~ The Anderson Family

Aaaaaand they’re back! The Anderson fam graces the blog once more because Bethany *slays* every single session with her outfit choices.

Let’s talk about that for a minute. Not sure what to wear for your next family session with us? This family is suuuuch a good example.

I always recommend neutrals and earthen tones for family photography sessions, simply because it’s a classic look that helps make your photos truly timeless. I love her use of neutrals with a pop of color for this summer photography session in Kokomo Indiana. Their clothing is still on trend with current styles, but with these colors will mean that their photos will continue to last and look in place on their walls for years to come.

Also, let’s talk about Bethany’s knack for accessorizing. Baby still needs a pacifier? No prob! Trendy neutral pacifier clip. Want a way to change up the “look” of your photos? Boom, add a hat. Options are endless with accessorizing and Bethany added the perfect touches for her family.

Here are my favs <3 Thanks for coming out Anderson family!

The Goad Family ~ Carmel Indiana Family Photographer

Rain rain go away come again another dayyyyy. You guys, if you know a photographer in Central Indiana, check on them because we are not okay. Jk but seriously not haha.

The amount of reschedules that I’ve done this month is insane in the membrane and the Goad family was no exception to this. We ended up having to reschedule their session and I think I lost count how many times.

But we FINALLY made it work. It was cold and it was sprinkling, but we all pushed through and ended up with some fun family photos at Coxhall Gardens in Carmel Indiana. This was a mini session and I’m always surprised at how many images a mini session yields. They are a great alternative to full sized sessions, especially if you have little ones.

Thanks for coming out Goad family and for being troopers in this crazy weather! Check out some of my favorites from Carmel Indiana family photography session their session below.

The Betz Family ~ Kokomo Indiana Family Photography

kokomo family photography

What a family. Seriously what. a. family. I was laughing all evening with these guys and if you look at the photos below, you can see why. If you saw a crowd of giggling humans walking around Downtown Kokomo singing Kumbaya last weekend, that was us 😉

Sometimes I forget in my own current stage of Motherhood that joy grows. There’s no cap on it. We exchange one stage of life for the next and it just keeps giving and giving and giving. I worry often about the sadness that accompanies little ones growing up. We miss them being small and needy. We miss them using words incorrectly (our son loves calling dandelions “daisy lions”) and we miss them putting their clothes on backwards.

But as kiddos grow up, so do their personalities, and they are just full of life. Watching them turn into adults and form relationships with their cousins and with the friends. Witnessing them making big decisions and milestones, like driving and graduating high school. Watch our children grow, truly never ends, for we all grow even as adults.

Betz family, it was SO good to meet you. I left feeling heart-full after your session and I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things that you accomplish together!

The Kiblers ~ Kokomo Indiana Maternity Photographer

There is such tranquility the last few weeks prior to a new baby’s arrival. Don’t get me wrong, it’s full of busy days preparing, sleepless nights as pregnancy become more physically demanding, and sometimes complete mental overload. But there is a “peace” of sorts.

A peace, a calm, a fullness in your heart as you wait for your miracle to arrive.

We’ve known the Kiblers for a few years now and to say I’m excited for them is an understatement. I was *so* thrilled when Theresa contacted me asking for a maternity session, and their day didn’t disappoint.

We spent most of our time together in a Kokomo Indiana park, a small portion in a nearby field(because Indiana), and finished things up at Scoops Ice cream. They are due almost any day now and I can’t wait to meet Baby Kibler! Congratulations you guys and I’ll see you again soon <3

Starkey Family Greenhouse Session ~ Kokomo Photographer

kokomo photographer

I have been scouting the area for what seems like forever to find the perfect Greenhouse location and my goodness, I think I found it! I found two actually! One is in Zionsville Indiana and one is in Kokomo Indiana. Which makes me crazy happy because this means that we now have two gorgeous locations for both Indianapolis based clients and Kokomo based clients <3

The newest location that I discovered is FULL of color. It’s the perfect backdrop for the spring. And the best part? We can go anytime they are open because it’s the perfect supply of light and shade.

Be careful though, if you’re like me and you love killing house plants on the regular, you’ll find yourself leave with quite a few budding plants, including eucalyptus trees 😉

Just look at this gorgeous family! The Starkey’s signed up for a Greenhouse session last month and despite all the rain we’ve been having, we were able to hide out together under some flowers for a bit <3 I also brought along my vintage quilt that I found at Treasure Mart Antique store and of course it didn’t disappoint(nothing from that store ever does haha!).

Thanks for coming out with me guys!

The Crawford Family ~ Greenhouse Photography Session ~ Kokomo & Zionsville Indiana Photographer

Greenhouse sessions are my new fav. Not only do they allow us an “outdoor” atmosphere with the benefits of an indoor environment, but they allow us to do sessions during almost anytime of day since most greenhouses offer the perfect amount of shade.

Altum’s Greenhouse in Zionsville kindly allows photographers to use their gorgeous space upon request. Their location boasts a HUGE variety of succulents and exotic plants (including 6′ fiddle fig leaf trees which I feel like are crazy hard to find).

Their beautiful variety of plants makes for the perfect backdrop with so many pops of color and textures. Plus you can grab some adorable handmade pottery on your way out! I don’t think I’ve managed to slip in and out of their shop yet without leaving with something.

Here are some of my favorites from The Crawford Family’s sessions.

Kokomo Indiana Family Photography ~ McKillip Maternity Session

Spring means…spring babies! It also means warm tones, later sunsets, and lots of green goodness.

While it’s still early in the season for all of the budding trees and tall green grass, we were still able to find some color during the McKillip family’s session. It was coooooold that day, it actually snowed the night before! Thankfully that was the last snow we’ve seen this spring(fingers crossed).

The McKillip family welcomed their sweet little boy into the world last week and I’m looking forward to seeing them again soon for their newborn session. Here are some of my favorites from their maternity photography session in Kokomo Indiana.
