This wedding season has been spectacular.
With rain, rain, and more rain, there’s this magic that every photographer hopes for on a rainy wedding day, and It. Keeps. Happening.
Seriously, almost every wedding I’ve shot this season, it has rained or sprinkled! And despite the wishes for clear skies, we are greeting with dreary clouds. The sun may be blocked and there is no blue in sight, but a soft airy light filters down through the clouds, onto the festivities below. Which creates the perfect atmosphere for natural and beautifully lit photographs, which can be taken almost anywhere on the grounds.
We don’t have to seek out shaded areas for portraits, no one has to squint in the bright light, a cool breeze drifts over from the shady atmosphere cooling our cheeks…it’s perfection.
And that’s exactly the atmosphere that Lauren & Jacob shared on their wedding day. The grounds were filled with twinkle lights and locally sourced flowers from L and J’s mother’s gardens. The newly weds shared communion in the intimate Amish horse stable where the ceremony was held, and excitedly celebrated with their guests for the rest of the afternoon. With a little rain for luck and some wind on our necks it was a lovely evening. Congrats Lauren & Jacob!
Rain-rain-go-away-come-again-another-day. I sang that really fast so I’m hoping that it works. This past month has been filled with weddings, which I am so ever thankful for. And along with Spring weddings comes Spring rain.
Though April showers do bring May flowers, it also brought Joni & Aaron’s big day.
Joni & Aaron live in California together, though they and their families are from the Indy area. And they are also already married. They have been for quite some time. They were far away at the time and the moment seemed right. And with both of them being in the military, it would have been difficult to make it home.
Their parents offered a wedding gift to them. They gave them the choice between a sum of money, which they could spend however they liked, or a wedding.
Joni & Aaron wanted so much to spend their special day with family and friends, so they planned a post wedding celebration, including a wedding ceremony and reception.
It was rainy at the Woodland Country Club in Carmel, Indiana but mother nature granted us just enough time for portraits and the ceremony outdoors, before heading inside to the main event. Which was celebrating Joni & Aaron’s marriage. Congratulations J & A!!!
Downtown Lafayette remains to be my favorite city in Indiana so far. With adorable shops, farmers markets, and always something to do around the corner, I was thrilled when I found Christine in search of an engagement photographer.
We decided to meet in front of the downtown Lafayette Theater to start.
I’d never been in this area for a shoot before so it brought about many opportunities as we explored the streets. Many alley ways were glittered with graffitti and it seemed every corner had a flowering tree.
Nick and Christine both admitted that they’ve never taken professional photos together before.
Gasp! Hiss! What? Really? All things considered, they were absolute naturals and fit comfortably within one another’s arms the entire shoot. Congrats to you both!
