Jacob & Lauren {Barn Wedding ~ Kokomo, Indiana Wedding Photographer}

This wedding season has been spectacular.

With rain, rain, and more rain, there’s this magic that every photographer hopes for on a rainy wedding day, and It. Keeps. Happening.

Seriously, almost every wedding I’ve shot this season, it has rained or sprinkled! And despite the wishes for clear skies, we are greeting with dreary clouds. The sun may be blocked and there is no blue in sight, but a soft airy light filters down through the clouds, onto the festivities below. Which creates the perfect atmosphere for natural and beautifully lit photographs, which can be taken almost anywhere on the grounds.

We don’t have to seek out shaded areas for portraits, no one has to squint in the bright light, a cool breeze drifts over from the shady atmosphere cooling our cheeks…it’s perfection.

And that’s exactly the atmosphere that Lauren & Jacob shared on their wedding day. The grounds were filled with twinkle lights and locally sourced flowers from L and J’s mother’s gardens. The newly weds shared communion in the intimate Amish horse stable where the ceremony was held, and excitedly celebrated with their guests for the rest of the afternoon. With a little rain for luck and some wind on our necks it was a lovely evening. Congrats Lauren & Jacob!

Joni & Aaron ~ Carmel, Indiana {Woodland Country Club}

Rain-rain-go-away-come-again-another-day. I sang that really fast so I’m hoping that it works. This past month has been filled with weddings, which I am so ever thankful for. And along with Spring weddings comes Spring rain.

Though April showers do bring May flowers, it also brought Joni & Aaron’s big day.

Joni & Aaron live in California together, though they and their families are from the Indy area. And they are also already married. They have been for quite some time. They were far away at the time and the moment seemed right. And with both of them being in the military, it would have been difficult to make it home.

Their parents offered a wedding gift to them. They gave them the choice between a sum of money, which they could spend however they liked, or a wedding.

Joni & Aaron wanted so much to spend their special day with family and friends, so they planned a post wedding celebration, including a wedding ceremony and reception.

It was rainy at the Woodland Country Club in Carmel, Indiana but mother nature granted us just enough time for portraits and the ceremony outdoors, before heading inside to the main event. Which was celebrating Joni & Aaron’s marriage. Congratulations  J & A!!!

Christine & Nick {Downtown Lafayette Indiana Engagement Session}

Downtown Lafayette remains to be my favorite city in Indiana so far. With adorable shops, farmers markets, and always something to do around the corner, I was thrilled when I found Christine in search of an engagement photographer.

We decided to meet in front of the downtown Lafayette Theater to start.

I’d never been in this area for a shoot before so it brought about many opportunities as we explored the streets. Many alley ways were glittered with graffitti and it seemed every corner had a flowering tree.

Nick and Christine both admitted that they’ve never taken professional photos together before.

Gasp! Hiss! What? Really? All things considered, they were absolute naturals and fit comfortably within one another’s arms the entire shoot. Congrats to you both!

Shelby & Matt’s Wedding — Indianapolis Skyline Club Wedding

Winter weddings are often met with challenges.

Icy weather. Gray skies. Lack of sunshine. Impending fears of the snowpocalypse. And pretty much the all around dreariness of things. But you wouldn’t notice any of this, based on the following wedding.

Matt and Shelby’s Winter Wonderland theme flowed flawlessly. An intimate ceremony of 20 guests filled the Skyline Club, on the top floor of Indianapolis’ tallest building. With hand decorated and thoughtfully planned decor, raspberry orange cake, and fresh coffee, it was hard to think about the outdoor elements.

Their wedding was extremely successful(and I’m going to write more about why later).

Check out their little big day below. Congratulations Shelby & Matt!

Stephanie and Frank {Happy Hollow Park Engagement — West Lafayette, Indiana}

Gray skies and snow. More snow.

I feel that the end of winter is near but it’s so hard to tell! And as it creeps by, so did this past week. Almost every day, I anxiously checked our flower beds for a small hint of green, from the tulips that I planted last year. I’ve broken out my seed starting trays in preparation for this years garden and (gasp!) did some Spring organizing.
Awaiting Spring has me reminded of a colorful session that I did this past fall, and although it wasn’t a “Spring” session, it sure felt like it!

The woods were still green and colorful.

It was a slightly warmer day and a cool wind rang through the birch trees as I meandered through the trails and woods of Happy Hollow Park with Stephanie and Frank.
Frank and Stephanie had recently moved to the area, although they were no strangers to West Lafayette. The last 3 generations of Franks family(himself included) had graduated from Purdue University, and they brought along his Great Grandmother’s Purdue knitted blanket. What an heirloom! Honestly, I was a bit frightened to hold it, much less stretch it out in the grass. But it did survive the session, unscathed, and it made for some wonderful and personable images.

Here’s to Frank and Stephanie as their wedding day approaches. And to Spring.

Nerissa and Jessie Engagement

Fall continues to be my fav time of year. I think that can be said for many photographers, because the fall leaves, cool weather, and colorful kisses are EVERYWHERE. Here are just a few from this lovely couples engagement session.
