Katie & Skyler ~ Legacy Barn Kokomo Indiana Wedding Photography

My goodness what. a. wedding. Maybe I just get super lucky but my Bride and Grooms have been phenominal this year and Katie and Skyler were no exception.

First off, Skyler is crazy in love with Katie. Secondly, Katie is crazy in love with Skyler. The end? I mean seriously, it’s so true! There really isn’t much to say, I can’t tell you guys how oodles and oodles in love these guys are!

Their first look was sooooo full of emotions, poor Skyler was crying before he even turned around. And Katie’s first look with her Dad was equally as full of emotion. So. Much. Happiness. So many tears were shed this day, tears of joy, by almost everyone. Their families were genuinely OVER-joyed by the occasion.

My favorite memory from their day? I have two.

First one was when Katie got on the Ural motorcycle and revved the handle on accident. I was standing in front of the Ural when she did and I’m sure guests have never seen me move so fast 😂

Second was a moment during their ceremony. Katie had to touch up her makeup several times during the day, because every time she had a tear run down her cheek, her makeup would go with it. The ceremony was no exception to this, so when she started to cry, it turned into laughter! Skyler and Katie were laughing at her tear stain checks(which were BEAUTIFUL by the way) and almost couldn’t stop. It was a moment of pure joy and I’m so glad I got to witness it.

Congratulations Katie & Skyler! You guys deserve the world and I wish you all the best in this new life together!

Sarah & Tyler – A Charley Creek Inn Wedding – Wabash Indiana

Sarah & Tyler are probably two of the most majestic people that I’ve ever met. Their sense of vintage style, their elegant but relaxed poise, their soft spoken words, it all makes you sigh into a sense of calm. Their loving demeanor towards their family, especially towards their nieces and nephews, will leave you feeling heart-full. Sarah’s creative side inspired much of her wedding, including her gorgeous vintage styled veil, which was made from an heirloom piece of her mother’s wedding dress.

So I’ll be sharing some of my favorites from their classic wedding, held at the charming Charley Creek Inn in Central Indiana. I think their letter swap is at the top of my favorite moments from the day. Sarah shared with me that the journal that Tyler wrote in, is a journal that they started at the beginning of their dating relationship, and they have continue writing in it to each other ever since. So it was only fitting that Tyler returned the journal to Sarah on their wedding day, with another love note before they saw each other down the aisle. Take a look below.

What Does a Wedding Day Timeline Look Like?

Each and every wedding day is different, because each and every Bride & Groom are different. Your wedding day is meant to revolve around you and your personal preferences, so naturally, your wedding timeline will be set up the same.

So how is a wedding day typically structured, time wise? Many couples ask me this question in regards to choosing their amount of hourly coverage for their wedding photography package. It’s hard to know what exactly you’ll need without discussing every detail, but here’s an example of what a lot of wedding day photography timelines look like.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Our Wedding Photography Timeline

12:00pm Jessica Newton Photography Arrives

12:05pm Details of Wedding Dress, Shoes, Jewelry, Cufflinks, Bowtie, Lapel Pen, Etc.

12:30pm Getting Ready with Bride/Bridesmaids

1:20pm Bride Getting Into Dress

1:30pm First Look with Groom

1:45pm First Look with Father of the Bride

2:00pm Bridal Party Portraits

2:30pm Bride & Bridesmaid Portraits

3:00pm Groom & Groomsmen Portraits

3:30pm Guests Begin To Arrive

4:00pm Ceremony Begins

4:20pm Ceremony Ends

4:20pm Cocktail Hour Starts

4:30pm Family Portraits

5:00pm Bride & Groom Portraits

5:30pm Bridal Party Line Up for Reception Introductions

5:45pm Bridal Party Introduced

5:55pm Official Greeting/Prayer

6:00pm Dinner Begins

6:20pm Toasts by Best Man & Maid of Honor

6:30pm Cake Cutting

6:35pm First Dance as Mr & Mrs

6:40pm First Dance with Bride & Father of the Bride

6:45pm First Dance with Groom & Mother of the Groom

6:50pm Generation/Anniversary Dance

6:55pm Open Dance Floor

7:40pm Bouquet Toss

7:45pm Garter Toss

7:55pm Bride & Groom’s Grand Exit

8:00pm Jessica Newton Photography Departs

And that’s it! Your own wedding day timeline may look completely different, and that’s okay too. Pre-wedding consults are the perfect compliment for wedding packages, so that we can discuss your exact wedding day itinerary and needs. But this is a great starting point for anyone unsure of what to expect on their wedding day.

Clay & Victoria’s One Year Anniversary Session – Kokomo, Indiana Photographer

kokomo indiana wedding photographer

I think this might be a new thing you guys. I WISH I had done this for my and my husband’s one year. Victoria came up with the genius idea of surprising Clay for their one year anniversary by scheduling a styled photography session. She brought along her wedding dress, an arsenal of props, and of course the top tier of their wedding cake.

My favorite part about this was that we were able to time their session around the “golden hour”, which often times isn’t possible to do on your wedding day. So even though we were at the same park, with the same wedding dress, and the same couple, these photos have a completely different look and feel to them. Check out my favorites from their session below, and if you happen to know V&C, be sure to wish them a happy anniversary!

Ashli & Freddie | Kokomo, Indiana Engagement Photographer

kokomo indiana engagement photographer

This. Session. It was muggy. It was buggy. And it was GREAT! These guys met me in Kokomo all the way from Frankfort Indiana so we could spend some time together. Their wedding is coming up in the Fall and as you guys have heard me say before, engagement sessions are the perfect way for us to get to know one another before your big day.

The lighting that day mixed with the free spirited attitudes of both Freddie & Ashli made the evening go by so quickly. We walked all over Wild Cat Creek Reservoir Park, bitten up and down by mosquitos, in the muggy heat of Indiana, and it was worth it. Take a look at some of my favorites.

4am Musings by a Photographer – A Personal Blog Post

kokomo indiana photographer

35 weeks as of yesterday. Shwoo this pregnancy has gone by fast.

It’s early early early(way earlier than I would like) because pregnancy insomnia is a thing apparently. This isn’t anything new, so once again I accepted that I wasn’t going back to sleep at 3:30am this morning and decide to start today. We have a busy day ahead, with family in from out of town, and my son’s 6th birthday party tomorrow. Lots of party planning, cooking, and cleaning all lay ahead for the weekend. My mind couldn’t shut off, checking each little thing on my to-do list over and over again. So I resigned myself to the fact that I might as well get used to it(because life with a newborn won’t be any different).

At first I thought I’d go to the grocery store, because there won’t be any crowds this early. I can get in and out in a matter of minutes, have breakfast cooked for our guests, and get a huge leap on the day. But then I decided to muse over my coffee by taking a peek at a recent session before heading out.

I open up my editing program(Lightroom for you photographers out there), and I came across the above photo. It’s not my usual style, but something about it stopped me. The memory attached to this photo left me smiling, then giggling, as I recalled what the memory was from. Maybe I’m just giggling because of sleep deprivation, but the hilarity in what I realized at the moment truly had me stuck.

Simply put, this darling little girl wanted to pick some flowers for her portraits that day. She found this little bundle of white dainty lovelies, and slowly, delicately started to pick off each and every one, and admiring it. And in my minds eye, I remember thinking about how long it was taking her to pick the flowers. I remember thinking that we needed to move on to a new location, the sun was getting higher and brighter, and we had things to do! Didn’t she know that we had things to do? So many things to do. So many places to go. All the things. All the places. All the photos.

If this little girl were me, right now, I would have snapped off that entire strand of flowers at the base.

I laughed because you see…lately, things have been all kinds of crazy around here. Jonathan(my husband) just started his new position as the head pastor for First Friends Meeting here in Kokomo. I’m in the throws of editing several weddings and sessions simultaneously that I’ve had this month, with still several more on the schedule for July. I’m officially a work from home, stay at home mom, since Jon now works from an office. And I’m SUPER pregnant, with an endless list of nesting to-dos on my plate before Baby arrives.

And so I couldn’t help but laugh at this picture, and the memory that goes with it, because of how absurd and ridiculous it made me feel.

What am I doing? I have absolutely NOT been delicately picking my flowers. This season has been hectic, crazy, and absolutely overwhelming. And right now, all of the flowers that I’ve been picking have been labeled as tasks, and buddy, I’m snapping the whole twig. Heck I might even pull it up by it’s roots like any two year old would. Because I’ve been in the mind set that I don’t have time for this. In my haste of preparing for a Baby, and guests, and work, and family, and chores, and the creative mundane that is life, I’ve completely lost the joy in all the details.

And the details are my favorite.

Details that I need to promise myself that I’ll remember. I promise to take a breath and smile at the mountain of dirty dishes on my counter, because it means there are hungry little people in our home. I promise to rest and be present in conversation with my family, instead of running through my mental check list. I promise to give in to my children as they beg me to play, instead of hurriedly pleasing them so I can move on to my next household chore. I promise to be intentional with my work, because I’m fortunate that I have work to do. And I promise to notice the little kicks and nudges present from the tiny human in my ribs, because I’m going to want to remember this.

So forgive me for my haste friends. Every day is a gift, and it’s a gift that we are only given once. Pick flowers intentionally, and enjoy all the colors and floral goodness that come with them.

Now please excuse me, because I’m headed to the grocery store 😉
